Crimson Desert: How to Obtain the Shadow Armor (Complete Guide 2026)

If you've been hanging around Crimson Desert since its March 19, 2026 launch and after the mid-2026 patches, you've definitely come across a player with a full black armor that looks like a specter from a nightmare. It's the set. Plate Armor of the Shadows — and yes, it's as stylish as it looks.

The cool thing about this set is that there are two ways to get it. The easy method: you pick up each piece in hidden chests scattered all over the Argent Peaks and the surroundings of Hernand, without killing anyone. The hard method: you smash a end-of-chapter boss in the ruins of Hoenmark and you get everything at once. We will detail everything.

And to top it all off, they also show you where to grab the legendary weapon that goes with the set - the Vow of the Dead King - plus one alternative cape with integrated hood which is frankly one of the most beautiful in the game.

Don't feel like taking on Beloth the Darksworn in chapter 7 (White Blizzard quest)? No problem. You can grab the breastplate, boots, gloves, and cape in pure exploration. Only the helmet remains locked behind the boss - but we have an alternative for you below.

Head to Everfrost Cave, west of Scholasta Institute (Argent Peaks). Ignore the map-boundary warning and climb the rock face — the ice cave entrance sits up high. When you enter, light your lantern - it's dark and the ground is slippery. Your character can totally slip on the ice.

The chest is just inside, no need to fight anything. The gloves come with two Abyss Cores slots already integrated, plus a bonus of climbing speed and of swimming speed Not bad for a free part.

A little north of where you just picked up the gloves, towards Frostclaw Cave. Follow the river and look for a big waterfall You recognize it by the small pile of stacked stones at the foot - it's the universal sign in Crimson Desert that there's something behind.

To pass through the waterfall, you must use the skill Thrust . On controller, it's R1 + Triangle. On keyboard, it's your thrusting armed attack (available by default). Charge through the water, open the chest, and the boots are yours.

Boots stats: 7 DEF, 16 ATK, +10% skill XP, and a 2% climbing speed multiplier. Very useful for exploration.

A little further north, just next to the watchtower of Everfrost. You are looking for a small cave with a door barred with spikes. The mechanism is simple: light the brazier in front of the door with your lantern. The bars descend, you enter, you open the chest.

13 DEF basic, immunity to petrification , DEF +3 via Abyss Core, and +2% endurance regeneration It is the strongest piece in the set and scales well up to the endgame thanks to the upgrades.

Head to the ruins of Hoenmark, just to the left of where the boss spawns. Do you see the frozen river below and ruins with a leaning pillar? Climb to the high part of the ruins until you find a floor with a light zone on the ground.

Squat down and use Force Palm with R3 on the controller. The wall pivots and you fall into a secret room with the chest. To exit, light the brazier next to it - the spikes lower and you can escape.

The cape brings a fire resistance level 7 by default, which is huge. Like the other parts, it can be improved and dyed. However, no integrated hood - for that, you will need the alternative that we see below.

Have you reached chapter 7 of the main story (White Blizzard quest)? Then you can face Beloth the Darksworn directly into the ruins of Hoenmark. It's probably one of the most brutal bosses in the game — we're not going to lie to you.

The fight is long, it hits like a semi-truck, and it has patterns that punish mistakes severely. Stock up on Palmar Pills, learn to read its opening windows, and be patient. Very patient.

Once it is on the ground, a quest objective sends you to retrieve his armor in the nearby ruins. You find it there. helmet (Plate Helm of the Shadows) — and with it, you unlock the entire set at once, gloves included.

The helmet is not just an aesthetic accessory. It has a unique Glacial Domain (frost breath) ability who freezes enemies in front of you. And if you use it on water? It creates ice on which you can walk for a few seconds Yes, like in Naruto.

That's probably why the helmet isn't available for free exploration - its skill is too strong to be given away for free. But the battle against Beloth is worth it.

Tip: Bring cooked meats and refined Palmar Pills. The fight can last 5 to 10 minutes depending on your gear. Unavoidable attacks are indicated by a red flash - dodge, don't block.

The Shadow Armor set has its own matching weapon: the Vow of the Dead King . It is a large broken axe, classified as a legendary two-handed weapon. And it hits hard. Very hard.

You find it in the Frostveiled Castle Ruins , a dungeon located near the town of Poon, a little further east on the map. The dungeon is filled with enemies — but nothing insurmountable, even early in the game.

Upon entering the ruins, go down the stairs in the corner. You arrive in a room with some floor jacks that go up and down Two options: either you do a grapple jump to the middle platform, or you climb up the wall. The wall is the safe method.

Then, watch out for the ceiling. Red zones appear - it means debris is falling. It hurts. Cross the chasm with an aerial jump + Force Palm + glide.

The next room has fire traps. The first one, you pass underneath crouched. The second one is lower, so jump over or glide. After the traps, you come across rock worms — two to defeat. They are a bit tanky but not really dangerous. Use spinning attacks.

In the back room, light the brazier to lower the spikes and access the chest. The Vow of the Dead King is yours.

Why this weapon is worth it: she comes with three Abyss Cores +3% damage against different types of enemies. The moveset is fun to use, she is upgradable, and visually she perfectly matches the dark look of the set.

Can't you kill Beloth for the helmet? Or do you just want a different look? The Dark Shooter Cape is perhaps the most beautiful cosmetic item in the game.

It's technically a cape, but it comes with a hood and an integrated mask that visually replace your helm. The result is an absolutely incredible dark wanderer look.

Heading towards the Warriors Soul Cave , on the right side of the map. Locate the mine tracks in the area and look for a waterfall. The small pile of stones at the base indicates that there is a passage.

Same principle as before: use the Estoc (Stab) to cross the waterfall. The chest is inside with the cape. Take the opportunity to pick up the refined Palmar Pill lying next to it.

This cape, combined with the silver-tinted plate pieces of the Shadows set, gives one of the most beautiful looks in the game. But we'll talk about that right after.

Once all your parts have been collected, head to Theoric , Hernand's dyer. His workshop is located southeast of the city, recognizable by the colorful fabrics hanging outside.

The secret to an insane rendering: pass all the flat pieces through the white (the default white colors are sufficient), then change the metallic material . It gives a silvery effect to all metal parts. Combined with the black fabric underneath, the contrast is just perfect.

You can dye each piece individually — chest plate, boots, gloves, and even the cape — to create your own variation. Dyes are purchased at Theoric, crafted in a cauldron (north of Hernand), or stolen from enemy camps with a mask.

All pieces of the Shadows set (including the alternative cape) can be upgraded and dyed. It is one of the few sets that truly scales from the beginning to the end of the game.

Crimson Desert on PC, it is playable with keyboard-mouse, but some actions of this guide require precise keys. Here are the default commands — knowing that everything is reconfigurable in Options > Shortcuts.

• Thrust: right click + strong attack key - essential for crossing waterfalls
• Force Palm: press and hold the dedicated key (default H or rebindable) — to open secret passages and pivot walls
