Crimson Desert: weapon ranking and complete guide (2026)

crimson desert weapons crimson desert tier list best weapon crimson desert

13 weapons, hand-to-hand combos, and a monstrous combat system. You are ranked from S+ to C so you know exactly what to equip.

The combat system of Crimson Desert is heavy

Pearl Abyss did not pretend. 13 types of weapons , bare-handed combos, mounted combat, grappling in the middle of a fight, weapon combos... We are far from the basic hack & slash where you spam a button. Each weapon literally changes your way of playing - the speed, the range, the endurance consumption, the combat rhythm. A player throws and a player axes, it's two different games.

Before diving into the ranking, an important tip: you can equip several weapons and switch in the middle of combat So, weapon associations count as much as the individual power of each weapon. Keep that in mind.

And if you're wondering what PC setup you need to run all of this without any lag, we have just the benchmark FPS dedicated to Crimson Desert on DropReference: dropreference.com/en/benchmarks/crimson-desert . More than 125 configurations tested, with FPS by resolution and preset. Essential before investing in a GPU.

How weapons were classified

We didn't just rely on raw damage - that would be too easy. Four main criteria:

  • Adaptability — Does the weapon handle multiple combat situations?
  • Ease of use — how long before being effective with ?
  • Fluidity of combos — how does it fit in with the rest of your arsenal?
  • Firepower — raw damage on single target and in area

Small detail: the Dagger is excluded from the ranking. It's a stealth assassination tool, not an open combat weapon. It does its job in infiltration, but comparing it to others doesn't make sense.

Complete tier list of weapons in Crimson Desert

Here is the ranking we established after spending a good number of hours on the game and taking into account feedback from the community. Just so you know: it's based on the early access and the first few days post-launch. Pearl Abyss may well rebalance some weapons in a future patch.

Rank Weapons Why
S+ Bare hands (Brass knuckles) Universal combo connector, fits all weapons.
S Longsword, Lance, Pistol, Bow The most versatile and powerful dedicated weapons
A Sword, Rapier, Handgun Solid and reliable, excellent in their niche.
B Axe, Hammer, Rifle Situation-specific but viable in good hands
C Weight Currently the lowest option

Rank S+: Bare hands, the secret weapon that everyone underestimates

Yeah, Kliff's fists are the strongest weapon in the game. It sounds absurd when put like that, but hand-to-hand combat in Crimson Desert doesn't work like in other action-RPGs.

Bare hands are not a standalone style. It is a universal connector which integrates with every weapon in your arsenal. You can use them as combo extenders, as finishers, as transitions between two weapons. The range limitations that normally make melee combat useless in this kind of game? They do not apply here, because the design philosophy favors combo architecture over raw range.

Concretely, the Bare Hands make every other weapon better . It's not just "good for a laugh" — it's the cement of the entire combat system. The skill Blinding Flash Finisher is also one of the most powerful attacks in the game and pushes back enemies around you. Almost mandatory.

Rank S: the most powerful dedicated weapons

Long sword

The Longsword is the promise of fulfilled power fantasy. It covers wide attack arcs, hits like a freight train, and—surprise—it has less setup time than one would expect for a weapon of this size. Equally effective against a solo boss as against a group of mobs, which is rare for heavy weapons.

Its massive damage per hit combined with a large attack coverage makes it a machine for cleaning groups. The execution window is surprisingly lenient, and it has real potential to unbalance against big enemies. Drawback: it remains slower than the majority of the arsenal, and optimal combos still require precise timing.

Launch

Probably the most balanced dedicated weapon in the game. The Lance is one of the fastest weapons available while offering significant reach — which means you stay safe during confrontations much more than with any other melee option.

Its reversal attacks provide real crowd control value, and it quickly accumulates damage through rapid strike chains. No big single hits, but formidable DPS. The downside? Lower burst damage on individual hits and decreased efficiency against very large groups.

Associate the Lance with a Hammer or an Axe for devastating combo changes. The speed of the Lance stuns, then you finish with the heavy weapon for the burst.

Bow

The Arc deserves its place in S thanks to its pure versatility. Stealthy eliminations, creating distance during chaotic battles, a wide variety of projectile types with different status effects... It's the long-range Swiss Army knife weapon. Using it in the middle of a combo to reposition or weaken an enemy before joining them in close combat is a legitimate and powerful strategy.

The Grey Wolf Bow is also one of the first interesting upgrades that you can get quite early in the game. And the skill Charged Shot allows you to one-shot animals to quickly farm meat - which is far from anecdotal given the importance of healing in Crimson Desert.

Gun

The Pistol is the ranged weapon for close to mid-range combat. Its integrated dodge mechanism after each shot keeps you mobile constantly, and it extends aerial combos in a way that no other ranged weapon can match. You can truly build your character around the Pistol as the main weapon—it's not just a support tool.

Rank A: solid and versatile options

Sword

The Sword is the safest and most accessible weapon in Crimson Desert. And it's not an insult. It manages offensive and defensive styles, pairs with a shield to reduce damage, and has the lowest entry mechanical barrier in the entire arsenal. Its main limit: crowd control. Its short range makes group battles less effective.

But the double wielding changes everything Handling two swords turns it into a quick and wide-reaching option that handles groups much better. If you're just starting out, start with the Sword to learn the basics of combat without fighting against the weapon itself. The Hwando (the katana) can be obtained very early on at the Crêtelion Manor with just a Thief Mask — and it's one of the first weapons with cores on it.

Rapier

The Rapier fills the technical and fast niche that the Dagger leaves vacant by being solely focused on stealth. It is the most mobile melee weapon in the game, with a built-in parry that deals massive damage when triggered at the right moment on an enemy attack.

The catch: to get the most out of the Rapier, you need almost perfect grips and long combo chains. It's a high-skill ceiling choice. If you like precision and style, it's formidable. If you prefer comfort, move on.

Handgun

The only area of effect firearm in the game. The Hand Cannon excels at eliminating groups of enemies in a single shot. It naturally pairs with Axes and Hammers, which can stun and knock down groups to give you time to charge a shot. Niche, but devastating when placed correctly.

Rank B: situational but viable

Axe

The highest damage per hit in the game. Impressive AoE combo potential. On paper, the Axe should be in S. Except that...

The animation lock is punishing. Like, really punishing. When you launch an attack and miss or get interrupted, you pay dearly. And it's not a small price - it's the kind of punishment that makes you put down the controller.

Interesting detail: the Axe seems better on Oongka on Kliff , which suggests that character-specific scaling plays a real role. In the right hands, she can outperform higher-tier options. But "in the right hands" does a lot of work in this sentence.

Hammer

Considers the Hammer as a preparation weapon, not a damage weapon. Its charged attacks launch enemies into the air and clear the space around you — perfect for initiating combos or creating space when you're overwhelmed. The raw damage is surprisingly low for its slowness, but as a combo initiator paired with a faster weapon, it far exceeds its rank.

The build Oongka Mountain Breaker with the Hammer is also one of the most fun builds in the game, even if it's not the most optimal.

Rifle

The Rifle is a tool dedicated to single targets with large health bars. The damage per shot is high, but the reload time is extremely long, which limits its usefulness in fast-paced combat. It is the game's sniper option: effective in its niche, frustrating outside of it. Damiane does better with it than Kliff, by the way.

Rank C: Mass, what's wrong?

The Mace isn't broken. But it seems misplaced in the combat system of Crimson Desert. Slower than the Sword, reliant on a shield to function defensively, and its main value — breaking enemy guards and stunning defenders — is a niche that other weapons cover more effectively as byproducts of their normal kits.

She could find more utility in the late-game content, but as it stands, it's the weakest option in the arsenal. Perhaps a patch will change things.

Weapon Speed Damage Range Ideal for
Sword Average Average Short Beginners, versatile
Longsword Slow Very high Average Powerful players, groups
Launch Fast Average Lengthy Tactical, crowd control
Rapier Very fast Low to high Short Technical, single target
Axe Slow Very high Average Burst AoE, specialists
Hammer Slow Low Short Combo initiation, CC
Weight Slow Average Short Defensive, guard-breaking
Bow Average Average Long Stealth, hybrid builds
Gun Fast Average Average Aerial combos, mobile builds
Handgun Average High Average AoE, crowd control cleaning
Rifle Slow High Very long Single target, boss support

The best weapons to retrieve early in the game

If you have just started your game and want a quick advantage, here are some weapons to grab first:

  • Hwando (Katana) — Recoverable at Crêtelion Manor just northwest of Hernand. You just need the Thief Mask (available from the alley vendor south of Hernand). Enter through the windows on the first floor, steal the key from the round table, then open the chest in the annex building. It's one of the first weapons with cores — the Stamina Siphon is very useful in early game.
  • Grey Wolf Bow — An easy-to-upgrade bow early on and remains relevant for a long time. Perfect for farming and hunting.
  • Frozen Anguish (Two-handed Sword) — 25 attack + attack speed + core Stamina Siphon. But be careful: you have to go to the Dead Fire Mountains north of Hernand, go down into the Spire of Frost (which inflicts constant cold damage), and open a chest in the basement. Bring a lot of care.
  • Fated Shadow — Considered the best one-handed sword for Kliff, obtainable in Chapter 9 in the arena cellar.

Little bonus tip: at the Crêtelion Manor, there is also a gold ingot hidden in the chimney of the main building. It is worth 500 silver coins — enough to be rich for a while. You can convert it directly or invest it in the bank with a medium risk to grow your capital.

Skills to unlock as a priority

The choice of weapon is good, but without the right skills, you are playing with a handicap. Here are the skills to prioritize:

  • Aerial Maneuver — Almost mandatory. Allows you to move quickly on the map and access areas otherwise inaccessible. Requires 200 endurance (4 points in stamina).
  • Blinding Flash Finisher — One of the strongest attacks in the game. Repels enemies. Essential in group combat.
  • Forward Slash rank 3 — Your Forward Slash never misses again. And it unlocks Nature's Echo rank 1 for Echoing Forward Slash on the right trigger.
  • Charged Shot — To one-shot animals and easily farm meat. Given the importance of care, it's not a luxury.
  • Swift Flight (Rank 2 Flight) — Great quality of life for exploration.

What weapon to start with in Crimson Desert?

If you're new to the game and don't know where to start: take the Sword. Not sexy, but effective. It teaches you the main combat rhythm without requiring perfect timing or complex input chains. The Bow as a secondary to keep your distance while you learn the attack patterns of enemies.

Once the basics are acquired, the transition to the Lance is natural. It is almost as accessible as the Sword but offers much more tactical depth thanks to its range and flipping abilities. And from there, you can start experimenting with the Gun for aerial combos or the Long Sword if you want burst.

The best weapon combinations

Since you can switch weapons in the middle of combat, inter-weapon combos are the real key to the system. Some combinations that work particularly well:

  • Spear + Hammer/Axe — Stun with the speed of the Lance, finish with the burst of the heavy weapon. The basic combo that works at all levels.
  • Gun + any melee — The Pistol extends aerial combos and repositions you. Perfect for transitions.
  • Axe/Hammer + Handgun — Stun and knock down the group with the heavy weapon, then the Hand Cannon cleans up everything.
  • Bow + Longsword — Weaken from a distance then rush into melee for the finish. Versatile and satisfying.

And don't forget the Bare Hands between each weapon transition. It's literally what makes the combos smooth.

FAQ

What is the best weapon in Crimson Desert?

Technically, the Bare Hands (Brass Knuckles) are classified as S+ because they enhance all other weapons by serving as a universal combo connector. As dedicated weapons, the Long Sword and the Lance are the most versatile and powerful.

Is the choice of weapon permanent?

No. You can equip up to three weapons simultaneously and switch freely in the middle of combat. Experiment as much as you want.

Are the weapons different depending on the character?

Yes. Some weapons perform better on certain characters: the Axe is better on Oongka, the Longsword excels on Damiane, and Kliff is strong with the Lance and the Bow. The character-specific scaling can modify the tier list for your build.

Where to find good weapons quickly?

The Crêtelion Manor (northwest of Hernand) for the Hwando katana. The Dead Fire Mountains for the Frozen Anguish. And Anvil Hill for a free skill point and abundant crafting resources. All accessible relatively early in the game.

Will this ranking change?

Most likely. The game has just been released (March 2026) and Pearl Abyss will certainly adjust the balance of weapons through patches. We will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, do not completely dismiss B and C rank weapons — weapon combinations and your specific character can make a difference.
