GTA VI: all the information, leaks, and rumors before the release in November 2026

GTA VI Rockstar Games Vice City 2026

Release date, gameplay, map, characters, 2022 leaks, trailers... Let's take stock of everything we know (and what we assume) about GTA VI.

The most anticipated game of the decade, that's all!

November 19, 2026. This is the date that is shaking up the entire video game industry. After more than 12 years without a new GTA (yes, GTA V dates back to 2013 - it hurts), Rockstar Games is finally preparing the sequel. And not just any sequel: GTA VI takes us back to Vice City, XXL version.

Between the massive leak of 2022, two trailers that broke the Internet, and Take-Two's earnings calls that distill bits of info, we have accumulated quite a bit of material. This article compiles everything: the confirmed, the very likely, and the "to be taken with a grain of salt." We separate the wheat from the chaff so that you know exactly where we stand at the end of May 2026.

Release date and platforms

November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It is confirmed by Take-Two during their latest earnings call, and reconfirmed by Strauss Zelnick (the CEO) in May 2026. No delay announced at the moment — after the initial delay (the game was originally scheduled for 2025), Rockstar seems to be sticking to its date.

And the PC in all this? Radio silence. No official date, no confirmation. If we look at the history, GTA V was released on PC a year and a half after the consoles. Red Dead Redemption 2, same. So well, we all know it's going to happen eventually, but don't expect it on day one.

On the price side, nothing official either. Analysts are talking about a price between 80 and 100 dollars. Some have even mentioned the 100 mark given the development budget (estimated at over 2 billion dollars). We'll see when pre-orders open - probably this summer.

Jason and Lucia: the duo at the heart of the story

First for the series: GTA VI features two playable protagonists. Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval . Lucia is the first female protagonist of a mainline GTA - and from the trailers, she seems to have as much character as Trevor had psychiatric problems.

The story starts with a supposed easy score ("an easy score" according to Rockstar) that turns into a disaster. The duo finds themselves involved in a larger criminal conspiracy. According to Trailer 2, we also meet Brian (Jason's owner, incidentally a dealer), Cal Hampton (his buddy), and Raul Bautista (linked to heists). In short, the cream of the crop in Florida.

The dual protagonist system obviously recalls GTA V and its three characters, but here it seems more focused on the relationship between the two. A Bonnie & Clyde couple Miami-style, basically.

The card: welcome to the state of Leonida

Forget about GTA V's Los Santos. This time we're landing in Leonida , a fictional state inspired by Florida. Vice City is the main city — Rockstar's Miami, in 2026 version. But the map is not limited to the city.

Several areas have been confirmed via the trailers:

  • Vice City — the metropolis, Miami on steroids. Skyscrapers, nightclubs, beaches, all bathed in neon.
  • Grassrivers — the Rockstar version of the Everglades. Swamps, alligators, smugglers hidden in the vegetation. Nice.
  • Port Gellhorn — dirty port area on the outskirts of Vice City. Rundown motels, shady nightclubs, weapon dealers. The place where you don't park your car.
  • Leonida Keys — the Florida Keys by Rockstar. Islands and coastal areas south of Vice City.

According to community estimates based on leaks and trailers, the map would be at least twice as large as that of GTA V. This remains unconfirmed by Rockstar, but given the ambition displayed, it would not surprise anyone.

Gameplay: what leaks and trailers reveal

Rockstar has not made an official gameplay presentation. But between the 2022 leak (we'll talk about it just after) and the two trailers, we have a fairly precise idea of what awaits us.

System of wanted level at 6 stars

The return of the system has 6 stars, abandoned in GTA V (which was capped at 5). The cops and police AI are described as much more responsive and unpredictable. You can also go to certain situations — a first.

Weapons and NPC interactions

NPCs react when you draw your weapon. In a crowd, your character automatically hides their gun. It's the kind of detail that seems insignificant but completely changes immersion. According to leaks, NPCs have dynamic behaviors — some even filmed the scene with their phone in leaked videos.

Robberies and interiors

The 2022 leak showed an indoor heist system (including a waffle restaurant that even became). We saw loot in containers, tools to pick doors, and an environment scanning system to spot valuable items. Rockstar seems to be pushing the number of visitable interiors far beyond what we had in GTA V.

In-game social networks

The world of GTA VI incorporates a fictional social media platform. NPCs create content, influencer culture is part of the scenery. It's a satirical Miami Rockstar version - we expected nothing less.

The September 2022 hack: the biggest gaming leak in history

In September 2022, a hacker leaked over 90 gameplay videos in development. Test builds, debug, scenes in pre-alpha. Rockstar confirmed that the material was authentic.

What we saw in these videos:

  • Jason and Lucia in prototype — movements, crouching, weapon handling
  • The Vice City and Leonida environments in a very early version, with debug text everywhere
  • Euphoria animation tests (heavier and more realistic physical reactions to impacts)
  • The system of commands between partners during heists
  • Indoor scenes, including the famous Waffle House heist
  • Audio tests - weapons, echoes, sirens bouncing off buildings
  • Vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles with reworked ascent/descent animations

The hacker was arrested. But the damage was done — these images fueled months of speculation and frame-by-frame analysis by the community. And honestly? Even in pre-alpha, it already looked massive.

Trailer 1 and Trailer 2: what we learned

Trailer 1 (December 2023)

The first trailer The official trailer broke all YouTube records in terms of views in the first 24 hours. We discovered a modern version of Vice City, Lucia as the central character, and the overall tone of the game: beaches, chases, wildlife, satire of Florida, and Rockstar's usual chaos. All set to the music of Tom Petty.

Trailer 2 (May 2025)

The second trailer , fully captured in-game on PS5 according to Rockstar (mix of gameplay and cinematics), has brought a lot of concrete:

  • The full names of the protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval
  • New supporting characters (Brian, Cal Hampton, Raul Bautista)
  • Specific locations: Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga
  • Sequences of hold-ups, corrupt cops, and an organized criminal network
  • The final (or near-final) graphic rendering — and it's so beautiful it brings tears to your eyes

A third trailer is expected this summer, probably accompanied by the opening of pre-orders. Take-Two mentioned "marketing starting this summer" without giving a specific date.

Graphic engine: the next generation RAGE

GTA VI runs on an ultra-evolved version of the RAGE engine (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). Rockstar has not made an official technical presentation, but what we see in the trailers speaks for itself.

  • Ray tracing — reflections, global illumination, and real-time calculated shadows
  • Photogrammetry — textures based on scans of the real world, hence the delirious realism of the environments
  • Enhanced water simulation — waves, reflections, fluid physics. Florida without convincing water, it wasn't an option
  • Character animations and physics — skin, clothing, hair: everything is a notch above. The Euphoria engine pushes physical reactions to impacts further
  • NPC AI — more dynamic behaviors, contextual reactions, enhanced warning system

In short, technically, GTA VI is shaping up to be the new reference in the open world. It remains to be seen if the console version will hold up at a stable 30 fps — because it will push the PS5 and Xbox Series X to their limits.

What we expect for this summer 2026

Strauss Zelnick confirmed that the marketing for GTA VI will start this summer. Specifically, we expect:

  • Trailer 3 — probably more gameplay-focused than the first two
  • Opening of pre-orders — and therefore revelation of the official price
  • Collector / Special Editions — Rockstar loves its $150 editions with a steelbook and a fabric map
  • Maybe some information about the online mode — GTA Online is a cash machine for Take-Two, they will want to reassure investors

The summer of 2026 is going to be long. But if Rockstar plays its cards as usual, every bit of info will generate millions of views and weeks of debate. It's GTA. That's how it works.

The rumors to be taken with a grain of salt

Because we wouldn't be complete without the unverified rumors circulating:

  • Special capabilities — Jason would have a slow motion mode like Max Payne. Lucia would have something else. Source: low-quality speculative videos. Reliability: meh.
  • Single player DLC planned — after the fiasco of the GTA V solo DLC (canceled in favor of GTA Online), some hope for Rockstar's commitment to post-launch solo content. Nothing confirmed.
  • Dynamic economy — a system where prices fluctuate according to your actions. Sounds cool but it's not in reliable sources.
  • Cross-gen canceled — GTA VI will not be released on PS4/Xbox One. That's almost confirmed given the graphical specs of the trailers. The old gen simply wouldn't handle it.
