AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D: the leak that changes everything in 2026

Well, here we go. Chi11eddog just dropped on X what we've all been waiting for months: the Ryzen 7 7700X3D lands. And honestly? The specs leave me perplexed.

According to the leak corroborated by Videocardz, AMD is preparing its 7th member of the X3D Ryzen 7000 family. 7800X3D locked to break prices? Or a marketing trap? We investigate.

TweakTown published the first info on May 19. The leaker chi11eddog - who usually gets it right - announces an 8-core/16-thread processor at 4.0/4.5 GHz. That's 200 MHz less than the 7800X3D at base and 500 MHz at boost. Ouch.

So, what exactly is AMD preparing for us?

The cache remains the same as the 7800X3D. Logical, it's the same die. But 500 MHz less in boost, that hurts. In gaming, the 3D V-Cache compensates a lot, but still. We're talking about approximately 5% less performance according to my calculations.

AMD is playing exactly the same game as with the Ryzen 5 5700X3D on AM4. A X3D processor limited to popularize the technology. The 5700X3D was released at $249 — a castrated 5800X3D which became THE gaming good deal of 2023.

Here it's the same. The 7800X3D is around 360-380€ on LDLC and Amazon. A 7700X3D at 300€ would make sense. Especially against Intel's Core Ultra 7 270K Plus struggling in gaming.

By the way, AMD has just released the 9950X3D2 Dual Edition with 208 MB of cache. They segment their range from the top AND from the bottom. Clever.

You play in 1440p and you are looking for an affordable gaming CPU? The 7700X3D could be your new best friend. But be careful to compromises.

In pure gaming, the difference with the 7800X3D will be minimal. The 3D V-Cache matters more than raw frequencies. On the other hand, in productivity, the 500 MHz less will be felt.

It depends on the final price difference. If it's a saving of 50-70€, go for it. If it's 20€, go for the 7800X3D.

AM5 required. A B650 will do the job. No need for a X670E at 200€ for this CPU.

Nothing official. But if AMD follows the pace of previous X3D, expect a launch this summer.

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is a well-crafted rehash. AMD successfully recycles its strategy from the 5700X3D. A gaming processor for 300€ with 104 MB of cache? On paper, it works.

Remains to be seen if the 500 MHz less do not too much impact the performance. And above all, if the final price keeps its promises. Because between a leak and the reality of the French market... there is sometimes a gap.
