No, it's not a typo. AMD has just launched the official product page of the Radeon RX 9050 4 Go on AMD.com, and the Adrenalin driver 26.8.1 released this week adds it to support. We already knew about the RX 9050 8 Go — an entry-level RDNA 4 GPU sold for $279 in some regions. But this 4 Go variant is something else. It's the same Navi 44 chip, the same 1,024 Stream Processors, the same frequencies. Except that on the memory side, AMD has cut back.

And the worst part? You won't even be able to buy it separately. It's a model reserved for OEM pre-assembled PCs — the machines that HP, Dell, and Lenovo sell to businesses and individuals who do not (yet) know what is inside.

What the AMD page confirms: the details of the specs

Until now, the specs of the 4 GB version were circulating in the form of leaks and driver listings. But with the product sheet going live on AMD.com, there is no longer any doubt. Here is what we know, black on white.

The GPU itself does not move: 16 Compute Units, 1 024 Stream Processors, boost at 2 600 MHz, game clock at 1 920 MHz . The 16 Ray Accelerators and 32 AI Accelerators are also there. On paper, it's the same chip as the 8 GB model. The raw computing power is identical: 10.6 TFLOPS in FP32.

Where it hurts is the memory:

  • 4 GB of GDDR6 instead of 8 GB
  • 64-bit bus instead of 128 bits — it's half, not a small trim
  • 144 GB/s of bandwidth instead of 288 GB/s
  • 16 MB of Infinity Cache instead of 32 MB

In other words, AMD has cut the entire memory subsystem in half. Half of the bus, half of the cache, half of the bandwidth. On a GPU that was already the smallest in the RDNA 4 range.

The TDP remains at 92W and AMD recommends a 450W power supply — the same as the 8GB model. At least, the power connector remains a simple 8-pin. The video outputs support DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b, and hardware AV1 encoding is included. On the software technologies side, the card benefits from FSR Redstone, Fluid Motion Frames, Anti-Lag 2, and the usual Adrenalin package.

A 64-bit bus in 2026 is a problem

To put things into perspective: the last time we saw a 64-bit bus on a normally sold AMD GPU was the RX 6400 in 2022. And even back then, everyone thought it was limited.

144 GB/s of bandwidth is ridiculous for running anything serious in 2026. Even at 1080p. The textures of recent games weigh tons, and 4 GB of VRAM is the bare minimum for display the main menu of some current AAA titles. A Borderlands 4 in low at 25 FPS, an Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced at 17 FPS — this is what the first tests show with 4 GB.

And the Infinity Cache reduced to 16 MB doesn't help. On the 8 GB version, the 32 MB of cache somewhat compensates for the 128-bit bus by serving as a fast buffer. With only 16 MB, the card has to tap into the VRAM more often — except that the VRAM is itself limited by this 64-bit bus. It's the snake that bites its own tail. So yes, AMD kept FSR Redstone and Fluid Motion Frames on this card. Upscaling and frame generation can technically make up for some of the gaming deficit. But FSR on a 4 GB GPU with a 64-bit bus is like putting a turbo on a Twingo: it helps, but the base remains what it is.

The OEM trap: you won't know that you have it

This is where it gets really vicious. This RX 9050 4 GB is exclusively OEM . You will not find it in a box at LDLC or on Amazon. It will be discreetly slipped into pre-built towers sold by HP, Dell, Lenovo and the like.

The problem? The average buyer who buys a PC to "play a little" will see "Radeon RX 9050" on the product sheet and think it's fine. Except that the name is identical to the retail model 8 GB. No mention of "4 GB" or "LE" or "OEM" clearly visible. You have to look in the detailed specifications to realize that the card has half of the VRAM and half of the bandwidth of the boxed model.

AMD is not the only one doing this — Nvidia has its truncated "OEM" RTX as well. But it remains a practice that penalizes the less informed buyers, those who precisely trust the manufacturer to put proper hardware in their machine.
