September 2026: the 10 video game releases not to miss

Ten games. In just one month. And not small names, huh. We're talking about a vampire RPG from former CD Projekt RED members, the return of Onimusha at Capcom, Wolverine as a PS5 exclusive, a Silent Hill in first-person view, and a remastered Witcher 3 arriving for free for everyone.

September 2026, it is probably the busiest month of the year. There are so many things coming out that we will have to make choices. No panic, we are sorting it out for you. Here are the 10 releases to watch closely, from September 2 to 29, in chronological order.

On starts strong. Moonlighter 2 leaves its Early Access on September 2 on PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 . And the cherry on the cake: it's in the Game Pass from day one .

For those who haven't been following, Moonlighter is the roguelite where you explore dungeons at night and manage your shop during the day. The 2 takes the concept further with procedural generation of inter-dimensional dungeons, new weapons, and a crafting system that has been completely overhauled during Early Access.

It's not the AAA of the year, but if you're looking for something addictive to play between two big releases, Moonlighter 2 does the job perfectly. The first one was already very good, the second one fixes its flaws and adds another layer. At this price, it's hard to say no.

The star of the month, and perhaps of the year. The Blood of Dawnwalker, is the first game from Rebel Wolves — the studio founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the former director of The Witcher 3. And just that sets the scene.

You embody Coen, a guy turned into a vampire against his will in a medieval Transylvania. The cool thing is the system day/night that completely changes the way you play . During the day, you fight like a human, with alchemy and witchcraft. At night, you unlock vampiric powers — claws, superhuman strength, wall climbing, transformation into a wolf.

And where it gets really interesting: the game runs on a 30-day counter . Every major action, every side quest, every dialogue choice takes time. You won't be able to do everything in one run. It forces real choices, not false dilemmas like in BioWare where both options lead to the same outcome.

Output on PC, PS5 and Xbox . It is clearly the game that will dominate discussions in September. If you have to take only one this month, it is that one.

Capcom resurrects Onimusha and no one believed it. The license had been dormant since 2006 and the return is made with Way of the Sword , an action game centered on sword fighting in an Edo period Kyoto invaded by Genma demons.

You play Miyamoto Musashi (yes, THE Musashi), and according to the demo released in June — about 30 minutes of playable content — the feeling is excellent. Capcom has opted for a quite technical directional parry system, with omni attacks for more relaxed players. It somewhat resembles From Software's Sekiro, but with the Onimusha DNA: more arcade, more dynamic.

Initially scheduled for September 25, Capcom has moved the release to the 4th to avoid the end-of-month bottleneck. Clever. Available on PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 . The demo is still downloadable if you want to get an opinion before buying.

Edmund McMillen, the father of The Binding of Isaac, arrives on consoles with his tactical cat breeding game. Yes, you read that right. Mewgenics was released on PC in February and it was already a hit — the game recouped its 8 years of development in 3 hours.

The concept: you cross cats, you make them fight, you discover improbable genetic combinations. It's weird, it's addictive, it's pure McMillen. On September 8, it arrives on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 .

If you liked Isaac, you probably already added Mewgenics to your wishlist. If you didn't like Isaac, well... still give it a try. It's different enough to surprise.

Insomniac Games (Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank) takes on Logan. And it's a excluded PS5 — no PC at launch, no Xbox. Sony is going all out.

We still know relatively little about the precise gameplay, but the trailers show a brutal and visceral game, light years away from the light tone of Spider-Man. Wolverine bleeds, slashes, and regenerates. Insomniac has proven with Spider-Man that they know how to make superhero action games that hold up, and Logan is a perfect character for a more mature treatment.

The big question: is it going to be an open-world like Spider-Man or something more linear and focused? The previews suggest a mix of both. In any case, it's the most anticipated PS5 exclusive of the back-to-school season .

Amplitude Studios launches version 1.0 of Endless Legend 2 after an Early Access phase. For fans of 4X — Civilization, Humankind, that kind of genre — it's an important release.

The 1.0 adds a new playable faction, two wandering factions, and one minor faction . The game is released simultaneously on PC, PS5 and Xbox , which marks the beginning of the franchise on consoles. If you are looking for a 4X fantasy with dense lore and asymmetrical mechanics between factions, Endless Legend remains one of the best options on the market. Not the loudest game of the month, but one of the deepest.

Remedy releases the sequel to Control and it's not at all what we were expecting. Finished the service gun. Dylan Faden, Jesse's brother, takes over with a shapeshifting weapon called Aberrant which transforms into a hammer, blades, sickles or fists.

The shift to melee action-RPG is a risky bet. The first Control was great thanks to its frantic gunplay combined with telekinetic powers. Here, Remedy moves to aerial close combat with environmental attacks. The previews are encouraging, but it's the kind of formula change that can either elevate the franchise or sink it.

Output PC, PS5 and Xbox on September 24 . The physical edition has been postponed to October 15. And beware: the Digital Deluxe offers 48h of early access on PlayStation.

Same day as Control Resonant. Konami is not afraid. Silent Hill Townfall arrives on September 24 on PS5 and PC with a radical change: it is in subjective view .

First big deviation from the series codes. You walk around with a kind of portable mini-TV (CRTV) which replaces the iconic radio as a threat detection tool. The atmosphere is described as analog horror — glitchy sounds, scrambled signal, image distorting when a monster approaches. 19 minutes of gameplay were shown in August and the result is promising.

You can flee from monsters, hide, or confront them with melee weapons and limited firearms. A peek system allows you to look around corners and inspect objects. It's reinvented Silent Hill, not classic Silent Hill — and it's going to divide opinions. But at least, Konami is trying something.

Well, I'm not going to lie to you: it's FC. You know what you're buying. But FC 27 is coming with a real new mode, Les Terrains , which is a social hub where you stroll, you play some Kickabouts and 1v1 matches in a space explored on foot.

Available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch and Switch 2 . The Ultimate Edition gives early access starting September 18. If you want the standard, it's on the 25th. It's the annual football release, you already know if you're getting it or not — but The Grounds could be the first real interesting novelty since the transition from FIFA to FC.

And we end the month on a high note. CD Projekt RED releases the remastered version of The Witcher 3 on September 29. Free update for all those who already own the game, regardless of the platform.

On the agenda: visual and performance improvements, new battles and animations, revamped traversal system, enhanced photo mode, accessibility options, and mod support. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now included free with the base game for those who did not have them. The game is also coming out in native version on Switch 2 .

And Reuters has leaked the info: this remastering is paving the way for a new extension planned for 2027 . CD Projekt has not officially confirmed anything, but it smells like a grand comeback. Eleven years after its release, The Witcher 3 refuses to die. And frankly, we don't complain about it.

It depends on your tastes, but The Blood of Dawnwalker is clearly the most ambitious release of the month. If you love open-world RPGs and The Witcher 3 is in your top, this is the game to watch out for.

No, not at launch. It's a excluded PS5 for the moment. No PC date has been announced. Given what Sony usually does, a PC port will probably arrive 1 to 2 years later.

Yes. If you already own The Witcher 3 on PC, PlayStation or Xbox, the remastered update is completely free . The DLCs Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are also offered to owners of the base game.

Both come out on the same day, but it's not at all the same genre. Control Resonant is pure action, supernatural melee in a strange world. Silent Hill Townfall is slow horror, stress, and exploration. If you have the budget, get both. Otherwise, choose according to your mood.

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is confirmed in the Game Pass day one. For others, nothing official at the time of writing. Onimusha and Control Resonant could arrive later, but it's speculation.

September 2026, it's back to school, but it's mainly a month where your wallet is going to suffer. Between the Dawnwalker vampire RPG, the return of Onimusha, the Wolverine exclusive, and the free remaster of Witcher 3, there’s enough to keep busy until December. Good luck choosing.
