A survival game where you breathe, for once

June 8, 2026. That is the date that Cyberwave and rokaplay have been asked for Solarpunk. And frankly, it feels good to see a survival game that doesn't ask you to kill 40 zombies per hour to progress.

Solarpunk, it's a survival and crafting game set in a world of Floating islands You build your base, grow your vegetables, tinker with gadgets, and explore the surroundings in a dirigible. Alone or with your buddies, up to 4 players in co-op . No fighting, no timer stressing you out. Just you, the wind, and solar panels.

The studio behind, it's Cyberwave — a team of two people based in Germany. Two. And the game is close to a million wishlists on Steam. Not bad for an indie project driven by a very clear passion for renewable energy and chill.

Platforms and release date

Solarpunk is coming ashore June 8, 2026 on just about everything that exists:

  • PC — Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG
  • PS5 — confirmed console version
  • Xbox Series X/S — and available in Game Pass, which is pretty cool
  • Nintendo Switch 2 — confirmed, but no store page yet

The price has not been officially announced. Given the indie positioning and genre, we can expect something between 20 and 30 euros, but nothing is confirmed at the moment. And if you are on Xbox, the Game Pass will save you the stake.

Important point: no cross-play at launch. If you want to play in co-op, everyone must be on the same platform. It's a shame, but it's often the case for small studios that don't have the means to manage multi-platform infrastructure from day 1.

Building your base in the clouds

The building system looks quite free. You collect resources on the different islands, and you assemble your house as you wish. Walls, decorations, furnishings — the community that tested the demo has already come up with some really cool stuff.

But what makes construction interesting in Solarpunk is the energy system You don't just put up walls and a roof. You have to power your base with solar, wind, or hydraulic energy. Weather conditions affect your production — if it's night or raining, your solar panels slow down. So you store the excess in batteries and connect everything with a wireless network.

It's a bit like if Satisfactory had made a child with Animal Crossing The logistics side is there, but without the pressure.

Farming, animals and quiet life

On the farming side, Solarpunk does things simply. You plant seeds, you water, you harvest. Fruits and vegetables are your main source of food. Nothing revolutionary, but it's clean and fits well into the gameplay loop.

What is more original is the relationship with animals. No industrial farm here. Developers talk about symbiosis : you don't kill anything, you don't exploit anything. Pigs, for example, will search for truffles if you take care of them. It's consistent with the overall atmosphere of the game - everything revolves around coexistence.

And for those who hate repetitive tasks: you can automate watering and harvesting with transport drones You set them up, they work, and you go explore quietly. It's the kind of feature that makes the difference between a farming simulator and a game where you really want to spend time.

The airship, the real thrill of the game

Each player can build his own airship And it's probably the feature that will sell the game on its own.

You assemble it piece by piece, you customize it, and you use it to travel between the floating islands. Each island has its own resources, its ecosystem. The airship is your key to unlock everything.

In coop, imagine the picture: four airships flying in formation above the clouds, each with its own style. We are closer to Miyazaki than to Rust, and that's just fine.

The coop: playing together without stepping on each other's toes

Solarpunk proposes a cooperative mode for up to 4 players. Each has their own inventory, their own airship, and can decide whether to build with others or on their own. It's flexible.

According to the co-op trailer released in February, the emphasis is on shared creativity. No competition, no PvP. You explore with your friends, you gather together, you build side by side. The kind of session where you can play a podcast in the background and just enjoy.

On the other hand — and this is the big downside — no cross-play If your buddy is on PS5 and you're on PC, you won't be able to play together at launch. Cyberwave only has two developers, so we can understand, but it's still frustrating in 2026.

Who is Solarpunk for?

If you enjoyed Stardew Valley , Raft , Astronaut or Cozy Grove , you are right on target. It's the kind of game where you log in after a day of work, you build three things, you plant carrots, and you log off feeling peaceful.

The players of Valheim or Palworld those looking for something less brutal could also find it appealing. The gameplay loop is similar — harvest, craft, explore, progress — but without the violence.

And the fact that it's on Game Pass makes the risk almost nil for Xbox players. You try it, you see if you like it, no need to pull out the credit card.

PC Configuration: what we know (and what we don't know)

Cyberwave has not yet published the official specs. On Steam, everything is marked "TBD" except the OS (Windows 10/11). Some third-party sites have released estimates, but nothing reliable.

The game runs on Unreal Engine , and given the rather stylized graphic style (not photorealism), one can reasonably think that a mid-range PC will run the game without any issues. A recent i5, a GTX 1660 or equivalent, 16 GB of RAM — it should work. But we are waiting for official confirmation.

In the meantime, the demo is available on Steam It's the best way to check if your setup is up to par.
