RAM Corsair: the timeless classic for gamer setups

Because Corsair has managed to keep it simple: design, stability, and very wide compatibility .

Their Vengeance series - especially the RGB versions - has established itself as a reference among gamers. We find the modules on thousands of builds, from the simple desktop PC to the full setup RGB with tempered glass display.

The strengths are clear:

• Heat sinks in solid aluminum and well thought out.
• Compatibility assured with the majority of motherboards of the market.
• Reliable performances , with simple XMP/EXPO profiles to activate to reach the advertised frequencies.
• And obviously, the Corsair finish : it's clean, it's neat, it inspires confidence.

At Corsair, the most well-known one remains Vengeance. It is available in DDR4 and DDR5 versions, with or without RGB.

• The Vengeance LPX (DDR4) are thin, perfect for compact setups.
• The Vengeance RGB DDR5 , they focus on power and looks. Also available in several colors.

Some popular models:

• Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL36 - the right balance perf/price.
• Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz - still excellent for 1080p gaming.
• Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR5 - the top of the range, pure and hard, but at a high price.

It's best to be clear: the Corsair DDR5 RAM is not without its issues.

On several forums (notably Corsair and Tom’s Hardware), quite a few users are reporting instabilities with certain Vengeance DDR5 kits when enabling the XMP profile It translates to loop restarts or MemTest errors.

In general, it is not a pure hardware issue, but rather compatibility between the motherboard, BIOS, and memory kit .

In practice, this means:

• Update your BIOS before activating XMP/EXPO.
• Check the QVL (memory compatibility list) of your motherboard.
• Avoid mixing several different kits , even if it is the same reference.
• And if your PC crashes, test at standard frequency before incriminating the RAM .

Corsair has fixed quite a few issues with the latest revisions, but for high-end DDR5 (6000 MHz and above), stability still depends a lot on the platform.

If you are on a recent platform (Intel 13th/14th gen, AMD Ryzen 7000), the DDR5 is the logical way You gain in bandwidth and reactivity, especially on heavy games or apps.

But for a 1080p or 1440p classic gamer PC, a good Corsair DDR4 is largely sufficient. DDR5 is still expensive, and the gains in FPS are not always significant.

On the other hand, it is highly recommended to switch to DDR5 as DDR4 is now obsolete.

Nothing to report: the Corsair RAM modules are well thought out. The LPX fit easily under massive air coolers, the RGB sync easily with motherboard software (iCUE, Aura Sync, etc.), and the packaging is clean.

Small downside to the Vengeance RGB DDR5 : they are a bit high, so be careful if your heatsink is very large.

Corsair remains a safe bet. It's simple, solid, and you know what you're buying. However, Corsair is not our favorite brand for RAM for several reasons:

• The price : they are generally quite expensive for the quality. It feels like paying a lot for RGB.
• The latest issues on DDR5 : as explained above, Corsair has been heavily criticized recently for DDR5 where many problems have occurred. On our side, we have identified a few but nothing alarming. However, we prefer to go with other brands (G.Skill, Kingston or even Patriot).

Let's say it between us, Corsair remains a good brand, but it is no longer in our top 3 for RAM .
