Hardcore and Challenge Modes in Crimson Desert 2026: rules, rewards, leaderboards

Hardcore modes crimson desert Speedrun crimson desert 2026 Challenges

Crimson Desert does not have an official hardcore mode, but the community has created one. Discover self-defined challenges, speedrun categories, and how to become a recognized hardcore player.

Why zero official hardcore mode?

Pearl Abyss made a choice: a single difficulty curve that adjusts according to your progression and your equipment. End bosses hit hard if you arrive ill-equipped, but become feasible with gear. It's well thought out, but it creates a huge void for hardcore players who find the game too easy.

So, the community has put together its own rules. Challenges do not officially exist, but they do exist for real.

The challenges that you create yourself

No Gear Challenge: Barehanded Combat

The classic. You abandon your gear, you fight the boss bare-handed.

Simple rules:

  • No weapon
  • No armor (naked or just basic clothing)
  • Combat skills pass (Meteor Kick, Focus Palm, all that)
  • No mistake: one death and it's over

Battle Challenge 10: Bare Courage it's your official tutorial. The game itself asks you to defeat 3 enemies without weapons in 1 minute, with reward: Abyss Artifact, Faded Abyss Artifact, Fortification I.

But true hardcore gamers go much further. Kearush, the Slayer, is the real benchmark. This 3-phase gorilla kills you if you're not precise. Speedrunners chain unarmed combat + a specific combo (triple Focus Palm spam) and finish it in less than 2 minutes.

Difficulty: Very high. Phase 2-3 kills you in 2-3 hits even with good defense.

Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 — The RAM you need before it disappears

In the midst of a DDR5 shortage, this Kingston CL30 kit at 6000 MHz remains the best value for money on the market. Compatible with AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0, low profile. If you are building a PC for Crimson Desert, grab it while it's still in stock.

Pros
  • CL30 - the best latencies on the market at this price.
  • Compatible with AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0
  • Low profile, no clearance issues with CPU coolers.
  • Often the cheapest DDR5-6000 kit still in stock.
Cons
  • Sleek design, no RGB
  • Fluctuating stock during shortage period.

No Healing Challenge: Zero Healing

Not a drop of heal. You arrive with the inventory empty or filled with bogus items.

Rules:

  • No grilled meat (the main heal)
  • No potion in quick slot
  • The static buffs ok, the passive regen ok
  • The Palmer Pills (revive) banned for the truly hardcore, tolerated in "semi-hardcore" mode

It's brutal. Most mid-game bosses take 60% of your life in one combo. Without healing, you can't afford to get hit.

It is a pure test of timing and mastery. Speedrunners often mix this challenge with unarmed to have a very clear goal.

Difficulty: Extreme. You don't finish off late bosses if you don't understand each attack.

Pure Skill Run: No Gear, No Heal, No Items

Pure brute force with bare hands. Zero help.

The best runners claim times on Kearush in 5-10 minutes with this rule, but these are rare exceptions who have studied the boss for weeks.

Speedrun Categories (Community)

The community has established unofficial but accepted categories:

Any% Speedrun

  • Finish the game as quickly as possible, no matter how
  • Current record: 2h49min (several runners competing)
  • The guys are aiming for 2h46min with new skips found
  • Strategies: skip the cutscenes, beeline the boss objectives

100% Speedrun

  • All the secrets, all the challenges, all the collectibles
  • No official definition but streamers align on a common

Glitchless Speedrun

  • No glitch exploited (no sequence break, no invincibility abuse)
  • For hardcore users who want to respect the progression

Boss Rush (Custom)

  • Face all the major bosses in a row
  • No time limit, just the tolerated number of deaths
  • Variants: 0-death (one death = game over), 3-death allowed, etc.

Leaderboards and Competitions

The game does not have built-in leaderboards, but the community maintains them:

Speedrun.com

  • The runners upload their videos
  • Times verified by moderators
  • Categories: Any%, Glitchless, Boss Rushes
  • Light but real competition

YouTube & Twitch Leaderboards (Community)

  • The creators maintain playlists of the best runs
  • Twitch has dedicated channels with the best clips
  • Less formal but more lively — the community votes with its views

Steam Community

  • Discussions capture records over time
  • Some players launch their own challenges ("beat Kearush unarmed in 3min", "speedrun any% with full melee build")

Game Battle Challenges (10 total)

These are micro-challenges in the game. Completing them all = a trophy. Some are hardcore by default.

The most hardcore:

Challenge 1: Meteoric Descent

  • Use Meteor Kick 30 times in 3 minutes on enemies
  • Timing and combo test
  • Reward: basic completion reward

Challenge 3: Seven Consecutive Strikes

  • Spam Force Palm 9 times in 5 seconds
  • Appears simple, but on some bosses it's time-locked
  • Reward: artifact mid-tier

Challenge 10: Bare Courage

  • Defeat 3 unarmed enemies in 1 minute
  • The first official hardcore challenge
  • Reward: Abyss Artifact, Faded AA, Fortification I

Complete them all = Battlefield Conqueror trophy. Hardcore gamers see it as a badge of honor.

How to create your own Hardcore challenges

Basic Setup

  1. Stream your run (Twitch/YouTube). The community does not respect claims without evidence.
  2. Document the rules clearly. Example: "Kearush, unarmed only, no artifacts, no heals, healing 3x max". Be explicit.
  3. Speedrun.com or Google Sheet to track your time if it's a popular category.

Mental Preparation

  • Kearush phase 3 : This is the big point. The boss chains violent attacks with super armor (blue glow = invulnerable). You just have to dodge and wait for openings.
  • Phase 2 heavy in care : Before phase 3, Kearush jump + grab combo. It takes 60%+ of your life. You must be ready.
  • Stat Defense : Even unarmed, 40+ defense reduces huge damage. It helps a lot without becoming too easy.

Strategies validated by speedrunners

Kearush Unarmed (5-10min) :

  1. Dodge his first combo forward-right, flank him
  2. Spam 3x RMB attack (the quick combo)
  3. Reposition, repeat
  4. Phase 2: hide behind the walls, wait for the jump, dodge forward, 2-3 hits max, reset
  5. Phase 3: full dodge-only, hit when it's safe. It can drag on for a long time.

Minimal Gear No-Heal Kearush (3-5min) :

  1. Gear defense minimal ok, no weapons
  2. Build your defense at 45+
  3. Essential artifacts for boosts
  4. Land heavy combos, heal only if below 20% (risky but faster)

The Reality

Crimson Desert does not have an official hardcore mode, but the community has built it themselves. The rules are blurry, but that's the advantage — you define them yourself. Speedrun, no-heal challenges, unarmed only, boss rushes — the real competitions are done via YouTube/Twitch.

If you want to be respected, document, stream, and show. No need for a fancy system. Just documented skill.

You don't need an official rank system. You just need a community that respects your work.

See you in the game, good hardcore gaming.
