Buying DDR5 in 2026: the struggle continues

We're not going to draw you a picture. Since the end of 2025, DDR5 prices have skyrocketed. A 32GB DDR5-6000 kit that was selling for 80-90€? Easily expect 300 to 400€ today. Thanks to the AI data centers that absorb all the production of Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron — these three control 93% of the global RAM market, and they have decided that AI is more profitable than your gaming setup.

We had already done a comprehensive article on the reality of DDR5 prices in April 2026 after the TurboQuant case. Spoiler: no, prices have not dropped despite what the media says. But hey, we can't wait until 2028 to build our PC. Intel confirmed that there would be "no relief before 2028" — the time to build new factories.

So if you have to buy now, you might as well choose the right kits. We have selected 3 DDR5 32GB references at 6000 MHz that are still available - not always at the price we would like, but at least you know what you are getting.

Our top 3: DDR5 kits worth it in the midst of shortage

Three criteria for this ranking: availability (because a "cheap" kit out of stock everywhere is useless), the performance at 6000 MHz, and the brand reliability We deliberately avoided the no-name kits and the unavailable references.

1. Kingston FURY Beast DDR5-6000 CL30 32GB

It is the kit that exploded during the shortage, and for a good reason: it was positioned as the cheapest on the market at the beginning of the crisis. Result, everyone jumped on it. And even if the price has risen since, it generally remains below the competition.

What makes the difference here is the CL30 At 6000 MHz, a latency of 30 is excellent — most competing kits are at CL36 at the same price. In gaming, it is especially noticeable in CPU-bound games and the 1% low. And on AMD Ryzen, the sweet spot is exactly 6000 MHz, so you hit the ideal configuration without having to tinker with the BIOS.

The kit supports AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0 , so compatible everywhere. The low-profile heatspreader does not pose any clearance issues with tower coolers. Only downside: the design is understated. No RGB, no bling — but honestly, when you're dropping 350+ bucks on RAM, aesthetics aren't necessarily your priority.

2. Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 CL36 32GB

Critical, it's Micron. And Micron is one of the 3 global memory chip manufacturers. When you buy Crucial, you're buying directly from the foundry - no intermediary. And it shows in the price: this kit is regularly identified as the cheapest available DDR5-6000 on comparators, when it is in stock.

Specs level: DDR5-6000 at CL36-38-38-80 at 1.35V with XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO profiles. Nothing extraordinary on paper compared to Kingston CL30, but in real life, the difference is marginal. We're talking about 2-3 FPS in gaming, max. Where it shines is in overclocking: Micron D-die chips handle manual adjustments well if you want to push towards 6400 MHz.

The design is minimalist — black aluminum heatspreader, zero RGB, zero frills. It's a workstation kit that ends up in gaming setups by necessity. Not sexy, but reliable. And in the current context, finding a reliable DDR5-6000 kit at a reasonable price is already a victory.

3. Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL36 32GB White

OK, this one is for those who don't want to sacrifice aesthetics. Because yes, in times of scarcity, we tend to jump on the first available kit without looking at what it looks like. But if you're building a white setup with a showcase, the Corsair Vengeance RGB in White version is probably the only DDR5-6000 RGB kit that remains regularly available.

Specs: CL36-36-36-76 at 1.35V, XMP 3.0 profiles (no official EXPO on this model, but it runs without any issues on AMD at 6000 MHz in manual settings). Samsung B-die chips provide a good headroom in OC — several reviewers report 6600 MHz CL38 stable at 1.4V. And RGB via iCUE, whether you like it or not, is well integrated with 10 LEDs per module.

The catch? It's the most expensive of the three. And the White version is more popular than the Black - so stockouts are common. But if you come across it in stock, don't hesitate: it's solid, it's beautiful, and it's Corsair. You know what you're getting.

Why 6000 MHz and not more?

If you are on AMD Ryzen (7000, 8000, or 9000), 6000 MHz is the absolute sweet spot The Infinity Fabric memory controller operates at a 1:1 ratio with the RAM frequency at this speed. Going above (6400, 6800...) forces a 1:2 ratio which degrades actual latencies. In short, more MHz but less performance. Not necessarily intuitive, but that's how it is.

On Intel (Arrow Lake, Raptor Lake), it's more flexible. You can go up to 7200 MHz without too many worries if the kit supports it. But in times of shortage, 7200+ kits are almost impossible to find — or at exorbitant prices. Settling for 6000 MHz is the most sensible compromise: solid performance, compatible everywhere, and slightly more regular stock.

Should we wait for prices to drop?

Waiting is the natural reflex. But the signals are not encouraging. Intel warned that the shortage would last at least until 2028 . AI data centers are expected to absorb 70% of all memory production by 2026. And what about Google's TurboQuant announcement, which caused manufacturers' stocks to plummet in March? In-store prices have hardly moved.

In short, if you need RAM now, buy now. If you can postpone until 2028... well, good luck waiting.

32 GB, is that enough?

In 2026, yes, 32 GB is enough for 95% of gaming + multitasking uses. The problem is that 64 GB (2x32 GB) costs twice as much - and in shortage, "twice as much" is easily 700-800€. If you're not into video production or local machine learning, 32 GB is the smart move. You can always add a second kit later when prices calm down. If they ever do.

Where to buy without getting scammed?

Scalping bots are a real problem. Our advice:

  • Amazon.fr — Make sure the seller is Amazon or the official brand. Beware of third-party sellers with "too low" prices.
  • LDLC / Materiel.net — French stock, stable prices, no wild marketplace
  • Activate stock alerts — Tools like DropReference allow you to track prices and availability in real time
